Rob Thorpe to Step Down as Hartsholme CC Club & 1st XI Captain

Hartsholme Cricket Club can confirm that Rob Thorpe will step down as Club and 1st XI Captain at the conclusion of the 2026 season, bringing to an end seven successful seasons in the role.

Since taking over the captaincy in 2020, Rob has led the 1st XI in more than 100 matches, contributing over 160 wickets and 700 runs during his time as captain. Under his leadership, the club has enjoyed one league promotion and lifted the George Marshall Cup on two occasions.

The accompanying graphic gives a snapshot of Rob's captaincy statistics so far. With two games still to play this season, those numbers aren't quite final yet! 🏏

However, Rob's contribution extends far beyond the boundary.

Away from the field, he has been a driving force behind the club's continued development. His focus on attracting sponsorship, delivering successful fundraising initiatives and expanding the club's social events has helped transform Hartsholme CC both financially and socially. Those efforts have enabled the club to continually improve its facilities and create an even stronger environment for players, volunteers and supporters alike.

Rob's commitment to Hartsholme has always been about more than captaincy. His passion for the club and willingness to give countless hours behind the scenes have played a significant role in where the club finds itself today. 

Speaking about his decision, Rob said:

"It's been an honour to captain Hartsholme over the last seven seasons. Thank you to everyone that's played in the 1dt XI we've shared some incredible memories together, from promotions and cup successes to everything we've achieved as a club off the field.The time feels right to hand the captaincy over to someone else while I continue to enjoy playing. I'm looking forward to 2027 and, for the first time in a long while, being able to just turn up and play cricket!"

Although stepping down as captain, Rob will remain a key part of Hartsholme Cricket Club and will continue in his various roles on the committee and of course playing for the club.
